It is covered with thin grey carpeting which allows it to have printed marketing materials attached to it with velcro tabs. I've used printed paper pieces cut to fit the counter that had been laminated, and also printed poster boards.
The genius of the design is that marketing pieces can be easily and cheaply changed.
Of course, it can be used as simply a counter with no marketing pieces. A person can stand behind it or sit on a stool. I've done both.
There is an inner shelf as you see in the photos. All pieces fit together with pins, so is very study. No one bumping against it can knock it over. It folds up for easy transport. Original cost was over $400.
