Due to getting older and health issues my husband has decided to reduce our herd of AI bred grade Jerseys. We have been breeding quality Jerseys since 1983. Our herd originally was developed in Somerset County Pa. where we developed our herd (at that time registered under the heard name Maranatha) into one of the top ten herds for production with the PA DHIA. Our children showed 4-H and eventually were able to show at Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1998 we had the honor of tying with Waverly Farms for the top selling heifer at the National Heifer Sale. We dispersed most of our herd prior to moving to Mo. in 2004 as my husband had decided to drive truck over the road. We kept several of the children's 4-H project heifers which we brought here to Mo. After driving truck for a while my husband decided to get back into milking full time but this time, we took a more laid-back approach to our management style and discontinued registering the cattle and using DHIA. (Though they all could be enrolled into the Jersey Genetics Recovery program as we have kept records of AI breeding) We use intensive rotational grazing and don't push the cows any longer. Our tank average is around 45lbs/cow at this time, and SCC at 250 at this time. Many of the cows are bred to calve this fall. We have decided to offer at this time 10-20 head with interested persons being able to pick and choose from the herd (except for the few that belong to our children). Asking $2500/head if taken as a group.
