Currently being trained by their dad, these teenagers are African Brown Goose (Mom) and Pilgrim Goose (Dad) mix. They follow Dexter (our gander) around, watching over the free-range chickens and are very happy to scare away any possible predators, including butterflies and hummingbirds. Gigi is hatching out goslings at the moment, so she has not been involved in their daily training, but trust me, once she appears with her new batch, she will be very vocal about their training.
We haven’t lost a single chicken to aerial predators since we got our goose three years ago. Guardian geese are amazing!
These four goslings were hatched out in April. They take their jobs very seriously and, in my humble opinion, are a necessity to any homestead.
