Celestron's NexStar SLT (Star Location Telescope) is a computerized Altitude/Azimuth (Alt/Az) mount with hand controller and database of over 40,000 objects. Runs on 8 AA batteries OR a Lithium Power Tank such as the one INCLUDED in this package.
The telescope is a Maksutov-Cassegrain with a 90mm objective lens and 1250mm focal length for a focal ratio of f/13.9.
The MAK is a catadioptric telescope, which means the optical design includes both a lens and a mirror. The light coming through a MAK passes through the corrector lens to the primary mirror and back to a spherical secondary mirror before it hits the eyepiece. Images are bright, sharp, and virtually free of chromatic aberration.
The Maksutov-Cassegrain’s optical design offers several unique benefits. Instead of a secondary mirror, the MAK features a “secondary spot” of reflective coating applied directly to the inside of the corrector plate. Because of this, the telescope does not require frequent collimation like a Schmidt-Cassegrain. Also, the secondary spot is significantly smaller than a traditional Schmidt-Cassegrain secondary mirror, giving the MAK its signature high-contrast views.
The Mount & (bare) Telescope weigh in at about 12 pounds, making this system easy to transport to dark areas in addition to backyard use. Everything is included to start visual observations immediately. You can add your camera of choice if desired to start capturing the cosmos. Add your own dedicated astronomy camera or use a simple and inexpensive T2-ring adapter to directly mount most any modern DSLR or Mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.
Everything is in excellent working condition.
All accessories are 1.25" size.
