I need temporary, furnished housing beginning the last weekend in October (29-31 October 2025) until I can acquire permanent, unfurnished, long-term housing in the greater southwest Springfield area.
I'm a straight male who neither smokes nor drinks (alcohol) and who does not use recreational drugs (legal or illegal). I'm intelligent, educated, experienced, rational, and a long-time member of Mensa (which, along with ca. $5, will get me cup of coffee at Starbucks!). I'm retired from professional cooking on the Outer Banks of North Carolina (Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, & Kitty Hawk---the birthplace of flight!) and Colorado (Steamboat Springs) and from the U. S. Department of the Army in West Berlin shortly before The Wall came tumbling down. I was in charge of a computer program that monitored and tracked troops in the so-called Berlin Brigade and was able to travel throughout Europe during my years in West Berlin/West Germany. I especially enjoyed my many visits to Ireland (visiting the counties from which my forebears migrated to America in the late 18th century) and London, the birthplace of so many of our now long-gone Founding Fathers. I'm not nostalgic, but I'm mindful of all we've been through as a nation.
I am looking for stability, i.e., a safe, secure, quiet, reliable home where I can be comfortable. My education is steeped in English (literature and grammar) and my appreciation for knowledge is genuine and extensive. I like to play Scrabble and Backgammon. I prefer classical music as well as so-called classic rock (the Beatles, their immediate predecessors, as well as Prairie Home Companion). I'm a fine cook. I'm a certified IRS tax preparer. I know how to shop for groceries, do my own laundry (including ironing!), and my driving skills are excellent.
I'm quiet and don't follow any sports programs or teams. I don't know how long it's been since I last sat through a commercial TV program. I think I switched to streaming when Seinfeld stopped his programming. I like to read and write about politics and economics (two sides of the same coin). My laptop's hard drive died a tragic death six months ago and I plan to acquire a new laptop as soon as I'm able to find a new home. I volunteered for a year at a Benedictine Monastery (Blue Cloud in Marvin, South Dakota) about 30 years ago and have stuck with the program ever since. I have a great (sometimes corny) sense of humor. Believe it or not, I find cleaning up after myself in the kitchen cathartic.
How long? Until I find suitable long-term housing, but certainly with my giving immediate and proper agreed notice so that you would not be left high & dry without notice. All reasonable offers will be positively considered.
I'd like to come by, introduce myself, meet you, and see what's on offer. Since my laptop died. I've had to rely on an ancient flip-phone which does not receive voicemail, or texts, or eMail,
so eMail (I'm at the Computer Lab of the Ozark branch of the Christian County library) is the only reliable way to reach me at the moment.
I have family in the area (Billings) and I can provide positive references.I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for your time. Best wishes.
