COBOL stands for COmmon Business Oriented Language, which is still in use on some older business mainframes.
These are based on the 80 column punch card programming system.
For you youngsters, punch cards were how you programmed those big room sized computers that helped send NASA's Apollo mission's to the moon.
But modern cell phones run rings around those capabilities now days.
